Ballots are out and the Elections have begun in earnest.
NOW is the time to make YOUR Voice heard and VOTE!!!
DDI has researched and interviewed candidates that are running in this year’ elections.
Candidates running for State Senate seats and State House seats are vital to maintaining a
responsive State Legislature to issues impacting communities of color. Some of the candidates
DDI has endorsed in competitive races for the State Senate are Claire Wilson (30 th LD) and
Claudia Kauffman (47 th LD).
In the State House there are several races that deserve your attention and support. Specifically,
the 30 th LD races Position 1 Jamila Taylor and Position 2 Kristine Reeves both deserve your
support and vote. In the 47 th LD State House Representative Position 1 Debra Entenman and
Position 2 Shukri Olow both deserve your support and vote. In the 37 th Legislative District for
House Position 1 Sharon Tomiko Santos has earned the DDI Endorsement, and both candidates
in the House Position 2 race Emijah Smith and Chipalo Street deserve your consideration and
vote. Finally, in South King County elections, is the 11 th LD with State House Representatives
Positions 1 David Hackney and Position 2 Steve Bergquist both earning DDI’s support. For the
full list of ALL DDI Endorsements please visit the DDI website.
STATE ELECTIONS
In addition, to these legislative races, the Secretary of State, the State’s highest position
overseeing and monitoring elections in the state, is also on the ballot. This position has
increased the public’s awareness regarding the security and sanctity of the elections process,
especially in this time of election deniers and voter suppression. It is crucial that a true
advocate for securing and expanding the ballot is elected.
DDI has endorsed Steve Hobbs for this position. He was appointed by Gov. Inslee and has led
the office of the Secretary of State in activities to increase voter engagement and outreach. He
has an established record of fighting for inclusion and diversity. In this time of election deniers,
and voter suppression, we need a true champion that is willing to fight.
COUNTY ELECTIONS
At the county level, the County Prosecuting Attorney position is on the ballot. This position is
responsible for determining the charges sought against an individual and for the sentencing
recommendations in cases in the King County courts.
Leesa Manion has already worked to increase diversity and inclusion in the Prosecutor’s Office
and understands the importance of advocacy for those who are marginalized, earning the DDI
endorsement.
Ballot Measures
There are several ballot measures on the ballot depending on your community. At the state
level there are several advisory votes based on previous legislative actions. For voters in King
County there is a ballot measure to change election dates of county wide elections. At the local
level several cities and school districts have local ballot measures up for consideration. These
deserve your attention as they will impact funding for school districts to renovate and build
new schools. Several cities throughout the county have ballot measures on Your local ballot
depending on where you live. For voters in the City of Seattle there are two ballot measures
regarding Ranked Choice Voting options for future city elections. For more information about
